Primary Project
The Developmental Movement Play action research project is providing evidence of the benefits – for learning and wellbeing – of supporting the youngest children to be more fully physical. But it is clearly not only the youngest children who need this. The Reading, Writing and Wriggling project we carried out in 2004 showed considerable benefits for children in primary school as well.
From 2008, in response to requests from those working in the Primary sector, we will be running a new research and development project for children in primary schools.
Starting from the theoretical understanding that children are biologically driven to seek movement activities which build all-round functioning, this research will ask how we can ensure that children who have missed out prior to arriving in school can get what they need within the more formal school curriculum.
