Older People's Programmes

JABADAO has worked with older people in community, health, residential and day care settings since 1985 when we created the JABADAO Band to tour a special kind of tea dance event called ‘Dancing for Friendship and Celebration’.

These proved so popular we developed them into week-long residency events in which older people designed, created and ran a tailor-made tea dance for their community on the final Friday afternoon.

Currently, our focus in the Older People’s programme is twofold:

  • Developing more sustainable opportunities for physically frail older people to get involved in life enhancing physical activity. This means finding and training volunteers to work alongside over-stretched services.

  • Developing ways of being physical that are a pleasure not a chore.
