Early years

JABADAO has worked in early years settings since 1993 when we devised our first programme of work for children in nursery and playgroup settings.

By 1998 the team had become frustrated with the limitations of running short-term projects and wanted to make a more substantial contribution. This coincided with significant developments in the sector as a whole.

Between 1998 and 2000 we conducted a consultation with early years practitioners in over 1,000 workshops across England. In response to what we found we created Developmental Movement Play (DMP), a new theoretical framework to help adults support children’s natural desire for whole-hearted, full-bodied movement play.

The team now offers a range of projects, courses and events for early years practitioners and runs an on-going action research project through which early years practitioners are involved in gathering evidence about the value of Developmental Movement Play for children’s development and wellbeing.
